Three clubs primed for Saul Niguez race as Barcelona deal stalls

Saul Niguez to leave Atletico?

Saul Niguez has been a household name in the Spanish capital since he broke through in the 2014/15 season, having racked up a hefty 337 appearances for the club.

However, following Atletico Madrid’s signing of Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, it seems as though Saul’s time in Spain could well be over.

A proposed swap with Barcelona, which would have seen Antoine Griezmann come back to the Spanish capital in exchange for the midfield general is thought to be proving tricky, leaving Niguez weighing up other options.

The Premier League his next destination?

According to a report from Spanish outlet AS, the Premier League could well prove to be his next destination. Both Manchester United and Liverpool are rumoured to be in the hunt for his signature, with both clubs in need of midfield reinforcement.

Manchester United are thought to be after a central player, with Rennes Eduardo Camavinga another option in the middle of the park.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking to reinforce in midfield following Georgino Wijnaldum’s contract expiry, with the Dutchman having since joined Paris Saint Germain.

In addition, Chelsea are thought to be making their interest in the player known, meaning that were the swap deal with Barcelona not to come to fruition, the Premier League seems his most likely destination.

How would Saul fare in England?
