Courtois explains that save

The match between Chelsea and Real Madrid in the Spanish capital finished in a 1-1 draw but the school and could have been very different at it not been from a excellent early save from Thibaut Courtois.

At half time, cameras revealed Courtois speaking with Olivier Giroud where humbly explained how he saved Werner’s effort.

“The save on Timo! pffff,” said Giroud.

Courtois replied, “All I did was put my foot out like this.”

It was a bit more special than the Belgian is making out but that is the reason Real paid the money to sign him.

Tuchel’s Werner frustrations

Werner missed the chance and it added to a number of high-profile misses since his arrival from RB Leipzig in the summer.

Coach Thomas Tuchel has never been one to mince his words and he continued that when speaking about Werner after the game.

“He missed a big one at West Ham and now he’s missed a big one here, that does not help,” he said.

“But it doesn’t help crying about it or regretting it all the time.

“There are millions of people who have harder things to deal with than chances that you miss. So the good thing about sport is that no one cares tomorrow, today we were sad and angry in the moment – this is normal. He is sad, he is angry and disappointed. “

Asked if Tuchel was blaming Werner for the failure to win and he replied:

“I don’t feel we are pointing fingers but of course the strikers want to score, to do it for themselves and the team.”

Could Tuchel opt to move away from his compatriot yet again when the second leg commences next week?
