Senior Bowl live score, updates, highlights from 2023 NFL Draft showcase game

With just one game left on the NFL calendar this season, it’s time for 30 of the league’s 32 franchises to regroup and look to the future. 

Each year, the Senior Bowl marks the unofficial start of the NFL Draft process. More than 120 top college players from around the country have made the trip to Mobile, Ala., to display their talent in front of scouts and staff from every NFL team.

This year’s rosters, for the American and National teams, are stacked. Some of the biggest names include Max Duggan, who led TCU to a national championship game appearance, and Kenny McIntosh, who won the title with Georgia against Duggan’s Horned Frogs.

Practices have already been taking place throughout the week, but Saturday’s game will be the final taste of competitive action for all of the prospects in attendance before the Draft in late April.

4:17 p.m. — Ryland boots it away and the American team will get the ball first on offense to start the third quarter. 

4:15 p.m. — After a halftime performance by Southern University’s “human jukebox” marching band, we’re ready to get this second half underway.

3:57 p.m. — That was a really dominant performance by the National squad in the first half. They were able to move the ball at will throughout the second quarter, especially with Cunningham under center. We’ll have to see if Duggan gets more of a chance to shine in the second half. 

End of first half: National 17, American 3

3:56 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Ryland caps off an excellent first half with another field goal, connecting from 41 yards to extend the National squad’s lead. 

3:55 p.m. — Cunningham completes another pass to Cincinnati tight end Josh Whyle, and the National team takes a timeout with five seconds left on the clock to run out the field goal unit. 

3:53 p.m. — Cunningham and his National teammates get the ball back with 35 seconds left on the clock. The drive gets out to a good start, with Hull running for 18 yards and Michigan’s Ronnie Bell making a catch for 20 more.

3:51 p.m. — Duggan is sacked for a huge loss on 2nd down by Bowling Green’s Karl Brooks. A Duggan keeper on 3rd and a mile comes up way short, so the American team will punt it away again as time winds down in the first half. 

3:46 p.m. — TCU’s Max Duggan has now checked in at quarterback for the American team. What a season he had, leading his team to the national championship game against all odds. His day starts with a pair of completions to McIntosh and Mingo to move the chains.

3:43 p.m. — The National team opts to go for two, and Cunningham tosses to an open Durham in the right side of the end zone to successfully convert!

3:42 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — That’s not how they drew it up, but it’ll work! Cunningham fumbles the snap, but he’s able to scoop it up and lunge into the end zone for our first touchdown of the afternoon!

3:38 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — After a few more Thomspon runs, the National team is into the red zone. Cunningham throws left to Durham, who fights to break the plane of the goal line but is ruled out of bounds just a hair short. We’ve reached another two-minute warning with the National squad knocking on the door.

3:36 p.m. — Texas Tech RB SaRodorick Thompson Jr. rips off an 18 yard run to move the ball into American territory. 

3:30 p.m. — Louisville’s Malik Cunningham has entered the game at QB for the National team, replacing Haener. On only his second snap, he flashes his speed with a nice 12-yard run to move the chains.  

National 6, American 3

3:28 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Georgia kicker Jack Podlesny boots it through from 35 yards to get the American squad on the board. 

3:27 p.m. — An attempt at a trick play gets blown up on 1st down, and Tune has to slide for no gain on 2nd. Facing 3rd and 11, Tune’s pass to Wayne comes up short of the sticks. That will bring out the field goal unit.

3:25 p.m. — Tune connects with Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave for 9 yards and another first down. Musgrave is a very highly-rated talent, and could see his name called on the first night of this year’s draft.

3:22 p.m. — South Alabama WR Jalen Wayne, son of former NFL star Reggie Wayne, makes a catch and gets a nice round of applause from the fans at his home stadium. One play later, McIntosh runs to pick up a first down and keep the drive going. 

3:20 p.m. — The American squad turns to the run game to start the second quarter, with Gray and Kentucky RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. combining for a few nice gains on the ground. 

End of first quarter: National 6, American 0

3:15 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The first quarter ends with another Ryland field goal, this time from 37 yards. 

3:13 p.m. — Appalachian State RB Cameron Peoples drops two passes on back-to-back plays to bring up 3rd and 10. Both should have been easy catches, too. Unfortunate sequence there for Peoples. After a short catch and run by Hull, it’s 4th and 6 and the National team will try a field goal with just a few seconds left on the clock.

3:12 p.m. — A short punt, plus a penalty, gives the National side fantastic field position near the American 23-yard line with 30 seconds left in the quarter. Let’s see if they can add to their lead.

3:10 p.m. — Tune starts the drive with a short completion to Mingo, but has to throw it away on the next play. On 3rd and 7, another Tune pass falls incomplete and the American team will be forced to punt out of its own end zone.

3:08 p.m. — A Haener pass on 3rd and 9 misses its target and falls incomplete, bringing out the National team’s punt unit for the first time today. 

3:06 p.m. — Chase Brown is here today with his brother and Illinois teammate, Sydney Brown. The Canadian duo are playing together once again as they audition for the NFL.  

3:03 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — Illinois RB Chase Brown rumbles for a few yards and another first down, and that’ll take us to the two-minute warning. That’s right, there will be a two-minute warning in every quarter of this game. Possession will switch at the end of each quarter, essentially allowing the scouts in attendance to see how all of the players out there handle clock management situations. 

3:01 p.m. — On 3rd and 4, Haener makes a great throw over the middle to a crossing Jayden Reed. The Michigan State receiver catches and runs up to the 32-yard line to keep the drive alive.

3:00 p.m. — Who will take home the MVP award today?

2:58 p.m. — A great punt by Rutgers’ Adam Korsak and some good special teams play leads to the ball being downed at the 1-yard line. That’s where the National team will start its second offensive drive of the day.

2:57 p.m. — They do go for it, and it looks briefly like they got a big gain, but an offensive hands to the face penalty will bring it back. The American team will be forced to punt this one away.

2:55 p.m. — Georgia RB Kenny McIntosh drops a pass that hit him right in the hands, and the American side faces 3rd and 10. A short gain on a catch by Oklahoma RB Eric Gray brings up 4th and 4, but it looks like the offense will stay on the field to go for this. 

2:53 p.m. — A few plays later, Tune throws a strike to Ole Miss WR Jonathan Mingo for a gain of 15 yards to move the ball across midfield. 

2:51 p.m. — Houston’s Clayton Tune starts the game at QB for the American team. On the first play of the drive, he throws a short pass to Alabama tight end Cameron Late for a quick gain of 11. 

National 3, American 0

2:48 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Maryland kicker Chad Ryland knocks it through from 32 yards out to open the scoring for the afternoon. The biggest star on that drive was definitely Hull, who showed off his powerful running style on a few big plays. 

2:46 p.m. — On 3rd and goal, UNC-Charlotte wide receiver Grant DuBose gets called for a suspect offensive pass interference penalty to wipe a touchdown off the board. Haener’s pass to Wilson goes incomplete on the following play, so this will be a field goal try.

2:44 p.m. — A Haener throw to Purdue tight end Payne Durham sets up 1st and goal. 

2:42 p.m. — Hull pushes the pile on another nice run to move the ball into the red zone for the National squad. 

2:40 p.m. — On the first play from scrimmage, Northwestern RB Evan Hull takes the handoff and bursts through the line to pick up about 25 yards. He took a big hit at the end of that play, but looks alright. On the next play, Fresno State QB Jake Haener zips a pass to Stanford WR Michael Wilson to pick up another big chunk of yardage.

2:38 p.m. — The National team will receive the ball first to start this game.

2:32 p.m. — NFL Draft season has unofficially begun. Kickoff in the 2023 Senior Bowl is just moments away.

2:20 p.m. — Today’s game will feature two teams, American and National, that are made up of some of the top senior NFL Draft prospects from the NCAA. They’ll be looking to show off their talents in front of a large group of assembled NFL scouts.

Senior Bowl start time

The game is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. local time) from Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The stadium is home to South Alabama during the college football season. 

The weather forecast calls for a beautiful day on the Gulf Coast, with sunny skies and temperatures around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
