San Diego FC have selected five players from the  2024 MLS Expansion Draft, ahead of making their debut in the league in 2025.

The Expansion Draft allows new franchises to pick five unprotected players from other teams in the league.

In return, those sides will receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money.

Here’s who was chosen by San Diego on Wednesday evening:

Midfielder Heine Gikling Bruseth was picked from Orlando City, as well as Colorado Rapids’ Jasper Löffelsend, who also plays in the middle.

Defender Hamady Diop was picked from Charlotte FC, and another midfielder – Hosei Kijima – was selected from St Louis CITY SC.

There was one forward in the group of five, and that was New York City FC’s Thiago Andrade.

Andrade was then immediately traded to Toronto FC in exchange for the ninth overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, as well as $250,000 in conditional General Allocation Money (GAM) and a sell-on percentage in any future transfer abroad.

Meanwhile Hosei Kijima was traded to to DC United for $400,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money.

The new season begins in February 2025.
