PSG ahead of Man United in Cristiano Ronaldo chase

Juventus troubles

The races for both titles and Champions League places across Europe is hotting up in a way which has not been seen before.

Despite the lack of supporters in grounds, it has not stopped the drama in France, Italy, Spain and Germany.

Atletico Madrid are hanging on for dear life at the top of La Liga, Lille are desperate to wrap up a glorious Ligue 1 title and Borussia Dortmund are trying to claw themselves above Frankfurt and Wolfsburg to earn a Champions League spot with the points separating the leagues so minimal.

The Serie A title seems wrapped up with Inter Milan taking a commanding lead at the top but the race for the top 4 is tantalisingly close.

Napoli, Juventus and Milan are all on 66 points in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Atalanta are two points ahead in 2nd and Lazio could move within 2 points of 5th should they win their game in hand.

Juve are being threatened with possibly dropping out of the top 4 for the first time in what seems an eternity.

PSG take pole in Ronaldo race

Should the seemingly unthinkable happen and Juventus fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, it would leave them in a very vulnerable place in regards to keeping their top talents.

The most obvious of which is of course Cristiano Ronaldo who has never featured outside of the Champions League since he arrived at Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon.

Despite being the senior footballing age of 36, he has shown little sign of slowing down. The Portuguese international has scored 25 goals in 29 Serie A matches and 32 across the whole season for the Bianconeri.

Should Juve fail to reach the top 4, Ronaldo’s wage demands and desire to play in the UCL may leave his position in Turin untenable.

According to European media, PSG have however moved ahead of Manchester United in the race for his signature.

Tuttosport claim the French champions want to add Ronaldo to their front line with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. With Lionel Messi looking more and more likely to remain in Catalunya, they’ve switched sights to the alternative football icon of the modern era.

Spanish outlet Marca say agent Jorge Mendes has been ‘sounding out’ United about a possible reunion.

Either destination would be a spectacle for footballing fans, but confirmation on his future is seemingly still some way off.
