Sepp Straka won $1,584,000 million for capturing his third PGA Tour title on Jan. 19 at The American Express.
It was enough to jump 18 spots on the money list.
It wasn’t enough to catch Hideki Matsuyama or Collin Morikawa.
Straka went from 21st to third on the money list and has $1,928,138 for the season. He trails No. 2 Collin Morikawa by $231,862 and is $1,804,537 behind Matsuyama.
Matsuyama did not play in the AMEX but returns this week for the Farmers Insurance Open at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif. Morikawa and Straka are not playing.
The Farmers Insurance Open is beginning on Wednesday and the final round will be Saturday to avoid conflicting with the NFL conference championship games on Sunday.
Justin Thomas earned $959,200 for finishing second (his third top-three in his last five starts, going back to last season) and also moved into 10th place on the PGA Tour’s career money list with $60,827,898, passing Matt Kuchar. Thomas is the 11th player in Tour history to pass $60 million in career earnings.
