With the regular season for college football winding down with only a few games left on the schedule until the CFP and other bowl games take place, it is extremely important for many high ranking teams to lock in for these final weeks.

For the Ohio State Buckeyes, while they are facing an underperforming opponent in the Northwestern Wildcats, they will be playing in one of the nation’s most historic venues, so anything will be possible.

Ohio State vs. Northwestern series history

The first matchup between the Buckeyes and the Wildcats dates back all the way to 1913 in Columbus where Ohio State took home the first ever win, 58-0. That game would eventually become the building block for OSU’s historical success against Northwestern.

In their all-time matchup, the Buckeyes have recorded 65 wins while the Wildcats have only been able to get 14. For Ohio State, they have averaged 38 points when facing Northwestern, which is a big reason why they currently have a ten-game win streak over their Big Ten rival.

Their most recent matchup was back during the 2022/23 season where the OSU run game was unstoppable. Miyan Williams ran for 111 yards on 26 carries and scored two touchdowns. Quarterback C.J. Stroud only threw for 76 yards and receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. only had five receptions for 51 yards.

This Week’s Matchup

While Northwestern sits amongst the bottom four of the Big Ten standings, they may look to ruin Ohio State’s chances at having a high seed entering the CFP, as this will not be any regular game.

Kickoff for the game will take place at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. Built in 1914, Wrigley has seen and has been a part of so many sports moments and will add another great game to its tremendous history.

For the Buckeyes, coming out of the gates quick in the first half will be crucial to win the game. If at any point they manage to play down to their opponent and keep the game close, momentum can easily shift in a place such as Wrigley and can make it tremendously hard to bounce back. Making sure to utilize their elite skill players in each drive will give OSU a great chance at adding another victory to their record.

Ohio State vs. Northwestern will take place on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 12:00 PM EST and on the Big Ten Network.
