In what should be one of the best matchups of the young college football season, 16th-ranked Notre Dame hosts 15th-ranked Louisville on Saturday afternoon. It will mark the second time in less than a year these programs will meet, but just the fifth time in the history of the two programs.
The Fighting Irish have bounced back nicely after their stunning 16-14 home loss to Northern Illinois earlier this month. Quarterback Riley Leonard and Notre Dame have won the past two games — over Purdue and Miami of Ohio — by a combined margin of 94-10. Marcus Freeman’s squad also had a big win over Texas A&M back in Week 1.

But Louisville, which defeated the Irish 33-20 when these programs met last November, has been practically flawless. QB Tyler Shough and the Cardinals opened the season with a 62-0 win over Austin Peay, smashed Jacksonville State 49-14 in Week 2, and then prevailed 31-19 over a good Georgia Tech team last Saturday.
