It wasn’t long ago that the Arizona Cardinals were seen as having one of the least talented rosters in the NFL. There was a dearth of talent on both sides of the ball, particularly on offense with former #1 overall pick Kyler Murray being one of the only notable players. Now, thanks to an influx of talent, the Cardinals may be in a position to cut a wide receiver who has seen some decent production during his time in the league.
According to Pro Football Network’s NFL analyst Dakota Randall, the Cardinals could be on the verge of cutting former free agent acquisition Zach Pascal. Pascal was brought in before last season to help address the talent issues, but now Arizona has found themselves in a situation where the veteran wide-out may be expendable.
Pascal originally caught on with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent shortly after the 2017 NFL Draft. He would go on to make the team in Indianapolis, and eventually become a productive option in their offense. During the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Pascal was a solid secondary option for the Colts, pulling down 40+ receptions, 600+ yards, and 5 touchdowns in each season.
Since leaving the Colts after the 2022 season, Pascal has entered “journeyman” territory, signing first with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, and then with the Cardinals prior to the 2023 season. He has failed to catch on with either team, and now may be facing the prospect of having to try and catch on with yet another team.
It’s a good situation for the Cardinals to have, finally possessing enough talent at wide receiver that they can let a solid veteran receiver hit the free agent market.
