The Mets acquired outfielder Alexander Canario from the Chicago Cubs in a trade Monday for cash considerations.

In a corresponding move, New York placed infielder Nick Madrigal (fractured left shoulder) on the 60-day injured list.

Chicago designated Canario, 24, for assignment this past Thursday.

In 23 games with the Cubs last season, Canario slashed .226/.349/.340 and totaled two RBI.

He spent most of his 2024 campaign with Chicago’s Triple-A Iowa Cubs, slashing .243/.336/.514 with 18 home runs and 47 RBI in 64 games.

From the Dominican Republic, Canario originally signed with the San Francisco Giants in July 2016 as an international free agent.
