Jurgen Klopp provides update on severity of injury to Liverpool’s Divock Origi

Liverpool down AC Milan in matchday 1

For two clubs with such history in the competition, that these two were meeting at Anfield for the first time in the Champions League. As with both the encounters previous, the game proved to be a classic, as Liverpool dominated the game but found themselves down 2-1 at Half-time after a rapid-fire brace from the visitors.

Liverpool rallied though, with Mo Salah netting an equaliser just minutes into the second half. It got better still for the Reds, as Jordan Henderson conjured images of Steven Gerrard with a strike from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

This victory means that Liverpool take an early advantage in a group that includes Milan, Porto and Atletico Madrid, with the latter two playing out a 0-0 stalemate.

However, the meeting was seemingly somewhat soured as forward Divock Origi was forced off the pitch on the hour mark, being replaced by Sadio Mane, and leaving Liverpool fans fearing the worst.

Klopp provides encouraging Origi update

Fortunately for Reds fans, Klopp has provided an encouraging update on the Belgian forward in the aftermath of the historic victory.

Speaking to the media after the game, the Liverpool boss said:

“He was not injured, just cramp, that’s normal.”

He was, however, happy with the contribution that Origi made while on the pitch, revealing that:

“Nothing really special [in training], he’s a great guy. He’ll be seen as a legend when he leaves. He could have left in the summer but football is a crazy place and people forgot how good he is. We have to decide the positions. He did nothing wrong.”

With Mo Salah and Sadio Mane both set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, Origi will need to be in top form to carry Liverpool’s title charge.
