A product of Oshawa, Ont., Smith joins the Bears after spending the past three seasons with the Colorado Eagles. In 2023-24, he scored one goal and added four assists for five points in 49 regular season games.

Drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft, Smith has played in 490 career AHL regular season games, collecting 33 goals and 39 assists for 72 points. He has also appeared in one career NHL game, suiting up for the Buffalo Sabres during the 2019-20 season.

Prior to making the jump to the pro game, Smith played his junior hockey with the OJHL’s Whitby Fury and the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s.

As Smith joins the Bears, he could be a solid depth option for the team. While his numbers don’t jump off the page, Smith has shown he can contribute when needed and is not afraid to be a physical presence on the ice.
