One of college football’s top matchups of the 2024 regular season is set for Week 5.

Georgia and Alabama will face off in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in what should be a playoff atmosphere between two top-5 programs. The Bulldogs, currently ranked second in the AP Poll but with a tough remaining schedule that includes No. 1 Texas, No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 5 Tennessee, would highly benefit from a road win.

Led by senior QB Carson Beck, one of the top prospects for April’s NFL Draft, Georgia steamrolled through Clemson and Tennessee Tech in the early season but had to survive a 13-12 scare vs. Kentucky in its last game. Beck has completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 680 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions over his first three games and will be looking to continue his rhythm against a talented Alabama defense.

For the No. 4 Crimson Tide, Saturday’s game is their first ranked matchup under first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer. Alabama hasn’t faced much tough competition through the first few weeks of the season, with blowout wins over Western Kentucky, South Florida and Wisconsin.

Junior QB Jalen Milroe has impressed as a dual-threat option thus far, totaling 590 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns and no interceptions in the air with 156 rushing yards and six scores on the ground through three games. On Saturday, he’ll present a multi-faceted threat to the Bulldogs’ defensive unit.

These two teams last faced off in the 2023 SEC Championship game in December. If that game — a 27-24 Alabama win — is any indication of how Saturday night’s matchup will go, it should be a closely contested meeting between two talented, deep rosters.
