Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne has urged Marcus Rashford to start enjoying his football again.

The 26-year-old is having a tough spell at Manchester United, netting just seven times last season and finishing eighth in the Premier League with the Red Devils.

It meant he missed out on a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad, despite being a favourite of Gareth Southgate over the years.

Rashford has been linked with a shock departure from Old Trafford but retains the trust of his manager Erik ten Hag.

And former Premier League legend Gascoigne has now had his say on the situation.

Speaking to GOAL, he said: “Marcus Rashford, I’m a bit disappointed he didn’t get picked for the Euros because I like Rashford.

“The thing with Rashford is, he’s just got to smile a bit, f*cking hell! Buy him something to make him smile. It just feels like he’s not enjoying it.

“He’s playing for Manchester United and with the wages he’s on, he’s got a life of luxury there and he’s got to enjoy it.

“I didn’t like it when some players scored and didn’t celebrate because you’ve got to realise – a bloke will take his three sons to the match, say Wembley, it costs them a lot of money to get there, money on food, watching the game and then these players just go off and don’t appreciate it – if it wasn’t for the fans coming to watch me play, I wouldn’t have been able to afford the nice holidays I had, or the nice cars and jewellery.

“I’m like the gladiator, entertaining fans and that’s what I like to think I did.”

Rashford must sharpen up if he is to keep his place in Manchester United’s starting XI.

Despite starting in the 1-0 win over Fulham on opening night, he still faces competition from the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils travel to Brighton on Saturday as they look to make it 6/6 points to start the 2024-25 campaign.
