Two of the NFC’s playoff hopefuls, the Falcons and Eagles, are set to meet under the spotlight of a “Monday Night Football” matchup in Week 2.

The 2024 season started in opposite directions for Atlanta and Philadelphia; while the Falcons dropped a low-scoring contest to the Steelers in QB Kirk Cousins’ first game in his new jersey, the Eagles escaped the Packers in Brazil behind a three-touchdown game from their new running back, Saquon Barkley.

Monday night’s matchup features two offenses loaded with talent at skill positions. Cousins joined the Falcons with RB Bijan Robinson, WR Drake London and TE Kyle Pitts, who caught a TD pass in Week 1, at his disposal. On the other side, WRs A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith make up one of the best receiving duos in football, and QB Jalen Hurts remains one of the game’s strongest rushing threats and now has Barkley at his side. However, Brown will miss this matchup with an injury.

With Cousins coming off his ACL injury from last season, his improvement between Week 1 to Week 2 will be worth keeping an eye on after he had two interceptions to start the year. Having a dynamic running back like Robinson will continue to help — plus, given that Philadelphia allowed 138 receiving yards to Packers WR Jayden Reed last week, Cousins could be looking to attack the Eagles’ secondary.

Philadelphia is still looking to rinse the bad taste of its late-season collapse in 2023. Following a playoff loss to the Buccaneers, GM Howie Roseman went to work, upgrading his defense with young talent and his offense with another talented weapon in Barkley.

Hurts tossed two interceptions in Week 1, but still performed well enough to squeeze by with a win. If turnover issues continue to plague him against Atlanta in Week 2, they may not be so easy for Philadelphia to overcome once again.

The Eagles are 6.5-point favorites entering this Monday night contest. They may have more overall talent, but Cousins and the Falcons would significantly benefit from getting in the win column after a lousy Week 1.
