Inter defender Stefan De Vrij said his team must still ‘improve’ defensively despite a ‘dominated’ game against Red Star that saw them keep a clean sheet for a second time in a row in Champions League this season.
The Nerazzurri got an emphatic 4-0 victory over the Serbian outfit in their first Champions League match at the San Siro, as Hakan Calhanoglu’s opener in the first-half was followed by goals from Marko Arnautovic, substitute Lautaro Martinez and Medhi Taremi after the break.
Although Simone Inzaghi’s side managed to finish the match without conceding, Inter looked vulnerable at the back at times, which is why De Vrij insists they should ‘keep working’ on this aspect.
De Vrij: Inter were dominant but need to improve in defence
“We created a lot and dominated the game against a team that sat deep, with a lot of quality and physicality,” he told Inter TV after the match, as reported by FcInternews.
“We did well, we proved to have improved the way we move the ball, creating a lot of chances. We must keep working and improving.
“We worked a lot, they had physical players with great pace, we needed to act in advance when we attacked.
“We conceded some breaks, so we still need to improve, but we’ll keep working on this aspect. I try to work hard in training to be always ready.”
