The world’s most coveted individual football award will be handed out on Monday as the Ballon d’Or takes center stage at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

One football superstar will see their career elevated to a legendary level, entered into a pantheon of greats from across the decades.

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. is considered a likely favorite to claim the award, however, there is widespread speculation of a boycott from the Brazilian after being informed he will not win it.

His club teammates Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham are in the running, while Rodri and Erling Haaland of Man City are also considered potential candidates.

With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both not amongst the nominees for the first time in decades, this award is considered the start of a new era of the sport looking to crown a new top star.

The Sporting News provided live updates throughout the day, bringing you the final results and reaction from the Theatre du Chatelet across the hours-long ceremony in the French capital.
