A matchup many fans were hoping has become a reality for Sunday’s Copa America final.

Argentina’s second 2-0 victory over Canada this tournament, which it handled with ease, put Lionel Messi & Co. in position to claim their second straight Copa title.

Colombia’s path through the semifinals was more difficult. After taking a 1-0 lead against Uruguay, Colombia found itself down a man when Daniel Munoz was sent off with a second yellow card. Los Cafeteros managed to keep Uruguay from scoring and escaped with a 1-0 victory.

Argentina is a heavy favorite over Colombia in the Copa 2024 final, according to odds across the sports betting marketplace.

Argentina betting news and analysis

The top-ranked team in the world handled business against Canada, and Lionel Messi got his first goal of Copa America in the 2-0 win. Argentina has not played its best throughout the tournament, but may be peaking at the right time going into the matchup with Colombia in the final. The side is healthy, and with Messi finding his form, he looks to lead Argentina to its third consecutive major tournament win.

Messi is one of the best of all time but struggled for much of his career to win on the national team, whereas he has collected plenty of hardware on the club side. Those struggles ended in 2021, when he led Argentina to a Copa America championship, then followed it by winning the World Cup in 2022. A second Copa America championship will add to his legacy.

Argentina has its hands full, but has the advantage of an extra day of rest and an easier semifinal than Colombia’s.

Colombia betting news and analysis

Colombia had a wild semifinal, and it was only the second time all tournament the team did not score multiple goals. Munoz getting a red card right before halftime didn’t help matters, but since he was sent off before halftime, Colombia was able to gameplan at the break with the advantage of a one-goal lead.

One player who can lift Colombia to pull off an upset over Argentina is James Rodriguez. He has been the best player in the 2024 Copa America and has consistently delivered incredible passes in the run of play, especially off set pieces. He leads the tournament with six assists, four more than anyone else, and has scored one of his own. James needs to deliver some magic in the final, though, for his squad to win it all.
