The Arch Manning era is officially on in Austin.

The Manning family heir won hearts with his standout performances in limited action during the 2024 season. Manning made two starts this season against Mississippi State and ULM, throwing for 583 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions in those two starts.

The stats alone say a lot about Manning’s QB talent.

So much so that even Johnny Manziel, former QB of the Longhorns’ bitter in-state archrivals, Texas A&M, best believes that Manning is exactly what Texas fans need.

“I think this is what all the Texas fans want,” Manziel said during a recent edition of his “Johnny’s Scramble Drill” podcast.

“This is what the clamoring and all the hoopla you’ve been hearing all year from them is to put Arch in, so now they get their chance.”

Chance or not, Texas football is making a generational leap from Quinn Ewers to Manning. Manziel’s experience from his storied college career predicts the Manning phase to be a “pretty good” one for the Longhorns.

“Now you go from Quinn Ewers to Arch Manning. Things at the quarterback position in Austin are looking pretty good for them so far, but we’ll see how it goes next year,” Manziel said.

Trey Owens accompanies Manning in the Texas QB room. Sarkisian is expected to add a few more players to the position through the transfer portal and recruiting to add depth. The need of the hour for the Longhorns’ QB room is a veteran with Ewers leaving for the NFL.

CBS Sports ranked Texas’s QB room the best last season. Sarkisian set that standard. Now, he has to maintain it.
