The Baltimore Ravens are one of the youngest franchises in the NFL, the second youngest to be exact. The only younger franchise is the Houston Texans, who reemerged in 2002, six years after the Ravens started up in 1996.

The team got its start in Baltimore because former team owner Art Modell, whose family had owned the organization since 1961, uprooted the original Cleveland Browns because the team was continually under financial distress.

There are, however, a few more granular details that had really strained the relationship behind the scenes, pushing Modell to finally make the move, but we will touch on that later…
