The ongoing Lucho Acosta transfer saga took yet another turn Saturday morning, as FC Cincinnati head coach Pat Noonan has revealed that the Argentine will report back to first-team training after training away from the team thus far during preseason.

The superstar attacker revealed his desire to leave the club shortly after Cincinnati’s elimination from the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2024.

And despite recent reports suggesting Cincinnati had agreed a fee to sell him to Argentine outfit Estudiantes, that deal has seemingly hit a road block after reports emerged that the ownership group behind Estudiantes may not have the money to bring Acosta in.

Fast forward to Saturday morning however, Cincinnati head coach Pat Noonan revealed that Acosta will be returning to first-team training.

“We had to build his fitness,” he said. “The plan is for Lucho Acosta to join the group (in full training) tomorrow.”

That revelation from the Cincy boss could provide a major twist in the saga, and it could be gleaned that Acosta is closer to staying with the club than previously thought.

The Orange and Blue are set to kick off their competitive campaign in the Concacaf Champions Cup on February 19.
