Amad Diallo turned a potential new low for Manchester United into quite the high on Thursday.
1-0 down at home to Premier League bottom club Southampton — one-win, six-point Southampton — Diallo’s late hat-trick turned the game on its head and delivered a much-needed three points to Ruben Amorim’s new regime.
Finding the net in the 82nd and 90th minutes before claiming ownership of the match ball deep into stoppage time, Diallo scored only the third treble in EPL history to occur entirely in the final 10 minutes of regulation (plus whatever else was added on).
And what’s even freakier is that the other two occasions were also scored by a Manchester United player.
This three-man club has Diallo in quite the company when it comes to making a lasting impression on the Old Trafford faithful.
Premier League hat-tricks in final 10 minutes
The first was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on February 6, 1999 — and older fans will recall, it actually finished as a four-goal haul.
Sir Alex Ferguson and his men’s infamous 8-1 hammering of Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in what would go on to become their famous Treble-winning season saw the Norwegian favourite — who later followed in Fergie’s footsteps and managed the club’s first team — score in the 80th, 88th, 91st (stoppage time) and 94th (stoppage time) minutes.
Doubles from starting strike duo Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole had already put the game beyond doubt before Solskjaer decided to really make sure Forest fans had a miserable weekend.
Continuing the four-goal theme, Wayne Rooney was the sole provider when United beat Hull City 4-0 at home on January 23, 2010.
Technically, the hat-trick came when he scored his second late goal of the match, having opened the scoring on eight minutes.
But when his last three of the four-goal haul came in minutes 82, 86 and 90+3, he joined Solskjaer in having netted three in the last 10 minutes plus.

Diallo in another, even more elite club
This also means that you could technically also say that only Diallo and Ole Gunnar have started and finished a Premier League hat-trick in the final 10 minutes plus time added on!
Diallo also bested a Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United feat with the late show – our very own Kyle Bonn elaborates here.
