Slugger Brent Rooker and the Oakland Athletics are in agreement on a five-year, $60 million contract extension, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Monday night.

The deal includes a sixth-year vesting option at $22 million that can escalate.

Rooker’s extension will pay him $30 million over the first three seasons, which would’ve been his arbitration years.

Rooker, 30, has been a late bloomer who thrived with the A’s, who are now extending him after they turned down opportunities to trade him.

The A’s have spent more than $100 million this offseason, one that began with them signing pitcher Luis Severino to a three-year, $67 million contract — the largest deal in franchise history.

Severino’s arrival was followed by the acquisitions of third baseman Gio Urshela and left-hander Jeffrey Springs, creating a different feeling among coaches and players heading into 2025.

The A’s will play in West Sacramento for the next few years until a new ballpark is ready for them in Las Vegas.

Rooker was sitting courtside for the Sacramento Kings‘ NBA game against the Miami Heat at Golden 1 Center on Monday night. He was joined by A’s manager Mark Kotsay, JP Sears, JJ Bleday and Lawrence Butler.

Rooker’s agreement with the A’s was first reported by The Athletic.

Information from The Associated Press was included in this report.
