Christmas came about a week early for Calgary Flames defenseman Brayden Pachal, who just agreed to a two-year contract extension with the club valued at $2.375 million.
Initially undrafted, Pachal signed as a free agent with the Vegas Golden Knights and was part of their 2023 Stanley Cup victory. He played two and half seasons with the Golden Knights before the Flames selected him off waivers on Feb. 4, 2024.
Since debuting with Calgary on Feb. 6, 2024, Pachal has scored two goals and eight points while compiling 66 penalty minutes. He’s averaging 14:37 a game and ranks third on the team in hits and fifth in shot blocks for the 2024-25 season.
During his time with Vegas, Pachal never carried a cap hit or AAV over $775,000, but with his new deal, the Flames will pay the 25-year-old $1.187 million each of the next two seasons.
The former WHL champion with the Prince Albert Raiders has 11 points in 93 NHL games and 43 points in 192 AHL games.
