Brothers Sean and James Bowen had to share the spoils at Cheltenham racecourse after a dead-heat was recorded between their horses.

James Bowen looked to be heading for victory in the JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle on the Warren Greatrex-trained Quantock Hills, before older brother Sean produced a late charge on the Jack Jones-trained Teriferma.

With the judge unable to split the Pembrokeshire brothers, the race was declared the first dead-heat at the course for eight years and a first for the siblings.

The only difference between them was the odds, with Quantock Hills an 11-2 shot and Teriferma 18-1.

Sean, 27, told Racing TV: “It’s probably something that hasn’t happened before, it’s good to do it at Cheltenham.”

James, 22, said: “To share it with my brother, it’s probably better than anyone else, I’d have felt really hard done by if I got done”

Sean currently leads the Jumps Jockey championships on 104 wins.
