Chelsea will look to extend their dominance on matchday three of the UEFA Women’s Champions League as they travel to Glasgow to face Celtic FC on Wednesday night.

Sonia Bompastor’s side are yet to lose a game under her management, beating Real Madrid 3-2 at Stamford Bridge in their first game of the tournament, before bringing home a 3-1 victory against FC Twente in Enschede.

Chelsea have been strong European contenders over recent seasons, but have failed to make it over the final hurdle and claim Champions League glory. Wednesday’s trip to Glasgow will provide the club with a good opportunity to further extend their victorious run of form, as they eagerly search to make the 2024/25 campaign a winning one.

Here’s 90min’s preview of Wednesday’s clash.

Saoirse Noonan will be a key name for Celtic if they are to produce attacking brilliance, having come to the rescue in the team’s Champions League qualifier against KuPS. Goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty has also been in shining form, and a big performance will be crucial for The Ghirls when coming up against Chelsea.

Celtic will also require a strong performance from captain and key-defender Caitlin Hayes, as the fully-fit centre back continues on a run of solid form for the Scottish side.

Celtic predicted lineup vs Chelsea (4-3-2-1): Daugherty; Costa, Hayes, Clark, Barclais; Cavanagh, McGregor, Lawton; Ross, Agnew; Noonan

Erin Cuthbert

Sonia Bompastor has been forced into making wholesale changes to her Chelsea side so far in her tenure, with goalscoring stars Lauren James, Catarina Macario and Mayra Ramirez all struggling to find fitness consistency. The physio room fluctuations haven’t ceased there, as Erin Cuthbert also makes her return to full-fitness following a spell on the sidelines.

Lauren James will remain sidelined for Chelsea’s trip to Glasgow, with both Catarina Macario and Mayra Ramirez in contention to play.

Chelsea predicted lineup vs Celtic: (4-3-3): Hampton; Lawrence, Bright, Björn, Baltimore, Nusken, Cuthbert, Kaptein; Reiten, Rytting Kaneryd, Beeve

While the hosts will have a point to prove as they bring Champions League football to Celtic Park, it will be hard to stop this formidable Chelsea side.

Bompastor’s side will be eager to rewrite the Champions League narrative of seasons before, and it will all start with a statement in the group stage. Searching to extend their unbeaten run in Europe so far, expect Chelsea to be more hungry than ever when they arrive in Glasgow.

Prediction: Celtic FC 0-4 Chelsea
