Nick Nurse has coached veteran guard Kyle Lowry in multiple places. First the Toronto Raptors and now the Philadelphia 76ers, so it’s safe to say he knows the 38-year-old quite well.

As one of the most knowledgeable guards in the league, Lowry is expected to play just as great a role off the court as on it with the Sixers. His game sense is so widely respected that NBA GMs gave Lowry votes as one of the active players who will make the best head coach someday.

Nurse completely agrees with the vote, expressing he could ‘very easily’ see Lowry in that role one day.

“Yeah, most definitely, I think he’s got a couple things that would make him a good coach,” Nurse shared at Friday’s press conference. “He really loves the game, he really studies the game. He knows the game, and obviously he’s got a toughness level. I think the instincts for him are [that] when the ball goes up, he doesn’t know any better than to compete. I also think that’s a good trait to have. I could very easily see him being a head coach some day.”

Forward Caleb Martin also praised the idea of Lowry one day taking on a coaching role.

The full GM vote for the player who will make the best head coach is as follows:

1. Chris Paul, San Antonio – 30%
2. Garrett Temple, Toronto – 20%
3. Mike Conley, Minnesota – 13%
T-4. T.J. McConnell, Indiana – 7%
T-4. Fred VanVleet, Houston – 7%

Lowry was in the group of those also receiving votes. With 18 years of professional experience under his belt, it’s not crazy to assume his time in the league is coming to a close. He signed a one-year, $2.8 million extension with Philadelphia this offseason, which could be the last contract he signs as a player.
