59 players have been invited to the Montreal Canadiens training camp and will be undergoing physical testing tomorrow at the CN Sports Complex in Brossard.

Unsurprisingly since the Habs like to have a lot of players at camp to be able to have two groups to play against one another in scrimmages, most of the players who were at rookie camp have received an invite to the main camp. The exceptions being those who are going back to their junior teams and the tryout invitees that got cut.
In the first category, we find two players selected at the last draft, defenseman Owen Protz and forward Tyler Thorpe. It’s not because the team was unhappy with their performance at all, especially for Thorpe. The 19-year-old firth-round pick left his calling card with physical play at the Prospect Showdown and a pair of goals playing alongside Florian Xhekaj and Luke Tuch.
As for the tryout invitees who weren’t asked to the main camp, they are goaltenders Samuel Richard and Matteo Drobac. Up front, Jacob Larose and Maxime Pellerin didn’t make the cut. Finally, on defense, Emanuelson Charbonneau was the only cut (aside from the above-mentioned Protz).

The first on ice session will take place on Thursday starting at 10:00 AM. As always, the CN Sports Complex will be open to the public. There won’t be any on ice sessions on game days throughout camp and there will be days off on September 25 and 29 as well as October 6. On October 2, after the on ice session, the team will be leaving for Mont Tremblant for a team retreat (just like last year) from where they will travel to Ottawa for a preseason game on October 5. Throughout training camp, there will be six preseason games before the regular season kicks off with the Canadiens home-opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
