The biggest free agent the New York Mets will have to try and re-sign is Pete Alonso. However, the club will see starting pitchers Jose Quintana and Luis Severino hit free agency. Sean Manaea has a player option as well.

The Mets could potentially lose their three leaders in innings pitched this winter. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller predicts the Mets to be one of the most likely teams to spend in free agency this winter. Miller named Corbin Burnes as a pricey option to build the rotation for 2025.

“(The Mets) also going to make it a point to bring in at least one quality starting pitcher, considering they’re about to lose all three of their team leaders in innings pitched this season. If it’s Corbin Burnes, that might be another $200M price tag.”

Burnes is projected to sign a six-year, $182 million deal in free agency according to Spotrac. Burnes signed a one-year, $15.6 million deal with the Milwaukee Brewers before the season started. The Brewers then traded Burnes to the Orioles for DL Hall and Joey Ortiz.

This season Burnes has a 3.18 ERA. He has started 29 games and was named an All-Star for the fourth consecutive season. He was the starter in the All-Star game for the American League. He has 157 strikeouts this year.

Burnes is due for a big payday. If the Mets were to sign him they would be able to pencil him into the No.1 spot in the rotation instantly.
