Major League Soccer legend Dax McCarty has announced he will retire at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old midfielder posted a tribute video on social media confirming the decision after his 19-year career.

Currently with Atlanta United, the American international played for six different MLS clubs throughout his career registering 481 appearances.

“The competitor in me thinks that I can play forever, but the realist in me knows that now is the right time to walk away,” McCarty explained.

“The most important [thing] is how grateful I am to everyone who has been there with me along the way. There is too many people to thank.”

Atlanta United have nine regular-season games left and currently sit ninth in the Eastern Conference table with the playoffs in sight.
