Botafogo sign Argentine international for big fee from Atlanta United

Botafogo have captured the signing of Thiago Almada from MLS side Atlanta United.

The deal is said to be worth $21million up front, which currently represents the third-highest incoming transfer fee in MLS history. That figure could eventually rise to $30 million with add-ons.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was part of the Argentina side that won the World Cup in 2022, and has a total of four caps for his country.

During his time in MLS, Almada made 81 appearances for Atlanta, scoring 24 goals.

As part of the deal, reports suggest the 23-year-old Almada will move on loan to Lyon next season.
