Pool Six

Updated: 04/02/2024

Pool Six of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager opens for betting at noon ET on Thursday April 4 and closes on Saturday at 6pm. Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and Florida Derby (G1) winner Fierceness is the 7-2 morning line favorite. Risen Star (G2) winner Sierra Leone is the 6-1 second choice, over 8-1 third choice Catching Freedom, winner of the Louisiana Derby (G2).

There were 9 new horses in Pool 6, with Merit returning in Pool 6 after appearing in Pool 3, and West Saratoga returning in Pool 6 after appearing in Pools 1, 2, and 4.

Note that any horses currently trained by Bob Baffert (or any other suspended trainer) are excluded and cannot earn points toward entering the Derby, however such horses are included in the mutuel field. If they changed trainers by January 31, then they can start earning points and be included in later pools as separate betting interests.

The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn’t start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 1 was October 31-November 2, Pool 2 was November 23-26, Pool 3 was January 19-21, Pool 4 was February 16-18, and Pool 5 was March 15-17. The 150th running of the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve is currently scheduled for Saturday, May 4, while the 150th running of the Longines Kentucky Oaks is on Friday, May 3. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.

You can check real-time odds when the pool is open here. Win wager will-pay prices and exacta pay-offs will be available here after wagering closes. Free BRISnet past performances for Derby Pool 6 are available here.
