Bradley Beal injury update: Suns star to miss at least three weeks with lingering back issue

The Suns acquired Bradley Beal in the hopes of creating a feared trio with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.

It appeared Phoenix was getting closer to having all three appear at the same time. But on Friday, the Suns announced Beal would miss more time with his back injury and remain out for several more games, delaying the return of the team’s offseason star trade acquisition.

Through three games this season, Beal is averaging 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists on 39.1 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. Durant has appeared in all 11 games for the Suns, but Booker has missed time with various injuries and Beal has missed time with a back injury.

What happened to Bradley Beal?

The Suns announced on Friday that Beal will be out with a low back strain.

Beal has been sidelined for most of the 2023-24 season to date with a back injury, having missed each of the first seven games of the year, appearing in the next three, then missing the team’s 11th game of the season on Nov. 15. He had been listed on the injury report with lower back tightness and spasms.

Beal missed parts of the 2022-23 season with a left knee injury and ultimately wound up only playing in 50 of the 82 games of the season.

That timeline would certainly jeopardize his ability to play in any of the NBA In-Season Tournament games. The tournament’s championship is held on Dec. 9, which would be just under three weeks from Nov. 17.

The Suns enter Friday’s In-Season Tournament matchup with the Jazz with a 0-1 record.
