CF Montréal enjoyed a much-needed taste of victory to kick off their 2023 Canadian Championship campaign, as they defeated League 1 Ontario outfit Vaughan Azzurri 2-0 at Stade Saputo to advance to the quarter-finals to take on arch-rivals Toronto FC.

Goals from Sean Rea and Sunusi Ibrahim proved the difference between these two sides on the evening, with Rea notching his first-ever goal for his boyhood club, and Ibrahim continuing to dominate in this competition after putting up impressive numbers in 2022, too.

Vaughan will leave Montreal with their heads held high, having put on a commendable fight against their opponents from Major League Soccer, with Carmine Isacco’s side getting a few good looks at goal before ultimately succumbing to defeat.

The Canadian Championship continues Wednesday on OneSoccer with a back-to-back-to-back triple-header, beginning at 5PM ET / 2PM PT.
