Two-time Grand Slam champion, Simona Halep, announced on October 21, 2022 that she tested positive for an illegal substance. Roxadustat, the drug found in her system, is a banned anti-anemia medication in sport that stimulates the production of hemoglobin and red blood cells in the human body. Although both of her doping test samples tested positive for the substance, the former World Number 1 maintains her innocence and is currently in, “[T]he biggest fight of [her] life.”
