What if you were someone that did everything in their power to make sure a certain outcome would be achieved? Say hoping to get a certain job or making it into a prestigious organization or university. What would happen if no matter what you did, the reality would never come to pass? Nothing you do would ever be good enough, despite endless money and starpower being thrown at it.

This was the Detroit Tigers and Mike Ilitch: A man who would stop at nothing to win a World Series title. Despite his efforts and near-infinite spending, he would never be able to achieve his final goal. As time passed, the lingering ambition would turn into outright madness. Some might say the Tigers are still reeling from these failed ambitions, but what is true is that the great teams they fielded during these years may be forgotten in time.

Why?

They never won a championship, despite the efforts from ownership and management.

This is the story of the Detroit Tigers, what I call the modern tragedy in sports.
