With his first fight in nearly two years lined up, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones made an announcement early on Sunday morning.

He said he’s 60 days sober.

The announcement comes after he was arrested in September on a domestic violence charge.

“My family, my life, my career could’ve been over after what happened in Las Vegas,” he said. “But God had other plans for me. 60 days sober and counting.”

His announcement came 58 days after his arrest, however, meaning Jones is two days short of the 60-day mark if he is indeed sober.

Jones was arrested in Las Vegas in September and charged with battery domestic violence and injuring and tampering with a vehicle. Las Vegas police said Jones grabbed a woman’s hair, headbutted a police car and told police he wanted to take them all on. Jones was in town to attend a UFC Hall of Fame event.

Jones denied touching the woman involved.

On Saturday, Jones announced that he will take on AEW wrestler and Bellator heavyweight Jake Hager in a Fury Professional Grappling match in December. Jones may have jumped the gun on his announcement; a Fury official reportedly said the fight has been booked, but it’s just not yet official.

The fight will be Jones’ first since he beat Dominick Reyes to defend his UFC light heavyweight title last February.

Though Jones is due back in court later this month, and still has a long way to go, his sobriety is a good first step if he’s truly trying to get back into fighting.
