A pair of Miami Dolphins players showed up to help victims in Surfside, Florida, on Friday following the deadly condo collapse there Thursday morning.
Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle helped deliver water at a reunification center for families nearby on Friday afternoon.
The Dolphins players were just the latest professional athletes in South Florida to help out after the building collapse. Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro and a pair of assistant coaches showed up to help on Thursday, where they delivered and helped hand out supplies.
“This is 12 miles from our arena,” Heat vice president Steve Stowe said. “We heard about this, and our immediate reaction was to find a way to help.”
The Marlins sent three vans full of meals and water to the site, too, and the Dolphins sent food trucks to help feed victims, first responders and other volunteers on Thursday.
A high-rise condominium in Surfside, Florida, collapsed around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. By Friday morning, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said that there are now 159 people still unaccounted for — up significantly from the initial 99 that were feared missing initially, per the Miami Herald. Four people have been killed so far.
Officials were still working through the rubble searching for survivors on Friday afternoon while working to put out fires at the site.
