The lack of notable names means a huge chance at a PGA Tour victory is on the line for the 132 golfers teeing off Thursday in the 2021 Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Club. The 2021 Bermuda Championship field is led by young stars like Matt Fitzpatrick and Korn Ferry standouts Stephan Jaeger, Joseph Bramlett and Mito Pereira. Former Masters champions Patrick Reed and Danny Willett lead a veteran contingent that also includes Graeme McDowell and Luke Donald. Brian Gay is the defending champion, breaking an eight-year victory drought at age 48 last season with a 15-under score and a birdie on the first playoff hole to beat Wyndham Clark.

Fitzpatrick is the 14-1 favorite in the latest 2021 Bermuda Championship golf odds from Caesars Sportsbook, with Christiaan Bezuidenhout the second choice at 16-1. Reed (20-1) and Pereira (25-1) are among the other notable players expected to contend from the 2021 Bermuda Championship field. Before you lock in your 2021 Bermuda Championship picks or make any PGA Tour predictions, you need to see what proven golf insider Sal Johnson has to say.

The media legend and esteemed golf insider has a strong track record on picks, and he knows what it takes to win. Before last week’s Zozo Championship outside Tokyo, Johnson tabbed Hideki Matsuyama among his best bets.

“You know he is looking to showcase his game in front of the home crowd,” the golf expert told SportsLine of the Japanese star. “This could be his personal U.S. Open.”

He was right on the money. Matsuyama, already a hero in his home country after winning the Masters in March, fired a final-round 65 that included an eagle from 8 feet on the final hole. He trailed by one with eight holes to play on Sunday and won by five strokes.

Johnson is off to a strong start overall this season. Before the Shriners, he named both Sungjae Im and Matthew Wolff among his players to watch. Im shot a 9-under 62 in the final round for a comfortable four-shot win, and Wolff finished as runner-up, his first top-10 finish in almost exactly a year.

The previous week at the Sanderson Farms Championship, Johnson nailed Sam Burns as his winner. Anyone who has followed Johnson’s advice has cashed in huge.

Now Johnson, the first producer of “Inside the PGA Tour,” a longtime ABC Sports golf producer who worked with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, and founder of the world’s top golf stats database, has released his highly confident 2021 Bermuda Championship golf picks, and they will surprise you. You can only see Johnson’s expert PGA picks at SportsLine.

Top 2021 Bermuda Championship golf predictions

In a major shock, Johnson is fading Fitzpatrick, who won two weeks ago at Valderrama and is the favorite. The Englishman will be making his first tour start this season. He had as many missed cuts as top-10’s in the last campaign and didn’t make the top-25 in his final four. He is accurate off the tee but isn’t as strong with his irons (147th in greens in regulation). He might take time to adjust and has been inconsistent, so Johnson will be going in another direction.

On the flip side, Johnson has seen Reed rise to the occasion many times and knows the 31-year-old will be looking to seize this opportunity. He is among the most experienced players in this field, and he is still capable of playing elite golf. Reed has nine career tour wins, including at windy venues like Doral and Kapalua, and his most recent was January’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. He had 14 top-25 finishes last season, with six of those in the top 10.

The golf guru also is intrigued by Pereira, who became just the 12th player on the Korn Ferry Tour to earn the automatic three-win promotion. The Chilean won in Bogota, Colombia, and had back-to-back victories in the Carolinas last season. He also tied for fourth at the Olympics this summer after being eliminated on the third hole of the playoff for bronze. He finished third in his season debut at the Fortinet and is 39-under over the first three events of the season, with a T-31 and T-40.

How to make 2021 Bermuda Championship golf picks

For this week’s event in Bermuda, the golf expert is backing a huge long shot who comes in at well over 60-1. This veteran has had some big successes in windy conditions over the course of his career. And while his recent results haven’t been notable, he has been known to win when least expected. He could pull off a shocking result, and anyone who backs this underdog could cash in huge. You can only see this Bermuda Championship pick and the rest of Johnson’s PGA analysis at SportsLine.
