Last week’s “Thursday Night Football” matchup on Amazon Prime Video featured two of the most pleasant surprises in the AFC over the last two seasons in the Bengals and Dolphins.

This week’s matchup will feature a couple of teams that have disappointed in the early stages of the 2022 NFL campaign.

Both the Colts and the Broncos entered the 2022 season with high expectations. Indianapolis was supposed to have a chance to run away with the AFC South while Denver was supposed to improve enough to make the AFC West the fiercest division in football.

Neither team has lived up to expectations yet. They have a combined record of just 3-4-1 and are starting to face make-or-break scenarios as the calendar turns to October.

Can Indianapolis and Denver turn their seasons around and become playoff teams again? It’s certainly possible, but each will need to start getting things right — beginning with “Thursday Night Football.”

Here’s everything to know about the Colts vs. Broncos matchup ahead of Amazon’s Thursday night NFL broadcast.

Who plays on Thursday Night Football tonight?

  • Matchup: Colts at Broncos
  • Location: Empower Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colo.

The Colts and the Broncos are set to square off on “Thursday Night Football” in a clash between two of the AFC’s most disappointing teams to date.

The Colts (1-2-1) were expected to be the clear-cut best team in the AFC South this season, but thus far, they haven’t been able to put it together. The team earned a surprising upset win over the Chiefs in Week 3, but their offense has been volatile and turnover-prone, as Matt Ryan has thrown five interceptions, taken 17 sacks and fumbled a league-high nine times.

Indianapolis still has some talent on offense — notably, Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman Jr. — but both have been banged-up in the early stages of 2022. So too has the team’s top defensive player, linebacker Shaquille Leonard (formerly known as Darius Leonard), who will miss Thursday’s game with concussion symptoms. Coach Frank Reich’s seat is certainly getting warm, but he could do a lot to cool it off — and keep the Colts in the divisional race — with a win over the Broncos.

Speaking of Denver (2-2), the Russell Wilson acquisition hasn’t quite panned out to date. The Broncos are averaging the third-fewest points per game league-wide at 16.5, and Wilson simply hasn’t gotten in sync with the Broncos’ offensive system.

Coach Nathaniel Hackett has certainly been part of the problem. He made some questionable decisions during the first month of the season and his offense simply hasn’t meshed. Now, they will have to try to get it working with top back Javonte Williams out for the season with a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee.

The good news is that the Broncos’ defense has been relatively strong through three weeks. It struggled against Derek Carr and the Raiders but should be better positioned to find success against a weaker Colts’ passing attack.

Both the Broncos and Colts are dealing with banged-up stars entering this contest. Wilson is dealing with a shoulder injury for the Broncos while Taylor has an ankle issue. Both may play, but it doesn’t seem like either will do so at 100 percent.

What time is the NFL game tonight?

  • Date: Thursday, Oct. 6
  • Time: 8:15 p.m. ET (6:15 p.m. MT)

The Colts vs. Broncos game will kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Thursday. The kickoff in Denver will take place at 6:15 p.m. local time, as Denver is located in the Mountain time zone.

What channel is Thursday Night Football on tonight?

  • TV channel (Indianapolis): WRTV (Channel 6)
  • TV channel (Denver): KMGH (Channel 7)
  • Live stream: Amazon Prime Video | DAZN (in Canada)

Amazon Prime Video is the new home of “Thursday Night Football” and will continue to be for the next 11 years as part of an agreement the streaming service signed with the NFL. As such, NFL fans living outside of the Indianapolis and Denver TV markets will need an Amazon Prime subscription to watch those contests for the next decade.

However, those in the local television markets will be able to watch the contests on cable TV and other streaming services. The Indianapolis market will broadcast the game on ABC affiliate WRTV while Denver’s broadcast will occur on KMGH, another ABC affiliate.

The Amazon broadcast is helmed by legendary play-by-play man Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit, who is working for the first time as an NFL color commentator. Kaylee Hartung roams the sidelines as the broadcast’s reporter while a studio crew consisting of veteran host Charissa Thompson and former players like Tony Gonzalez, Richard Sherman and Ryan Fitzpatrick handles pregame, halftime and postgame coverage of the event.

Viewers in Canada will be able to watch the game on DAZN.

NFL live stream for Thursday night game

  • Live stream: Amazon Prime

If you want to watch “Thursday Night Football” in 2022, you are going to need a subscription to Amazon Prime. It will be the exclusive streaming home of “TNF” for the next 11 years, and the games will only be broadcast on over-the-air TV in the local markets of the participating teams.

NFL schedule Week 5

The Colts-Broncos game will be the first of another 16-game slate that features four stand-alone games.

There is no extra prime-time contest in Week 5, but the NFL Network will broadcast another London game at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday. That matchup will be the first in the London series’ history to feature two teams with a winning record, the Packers (3-1) and the Giants (3-1).

The “Sunday Night Football” game in Week 5 may be the most important matchup of the week. The Bengals and Ravens are battling in a contest that will decide which of the two playoff hopefuls will sit atop the AFC North after Week 5. Lamar Jackson has historically performed well against the Bengals, but Joe Burrow and Co. have won back-to-back outings after starting the year 0-2.

Finally, “Monday Night Football” in Week 5 will feature a matchup between the Chiefs and the Raiders. Since Andy Reid came to Kansas City, he has a 15-3 record against the Raiders. Since Patrick Mahomes has been the Chiefs’ starter, they are 7-1 against their division rivals.

One final game of note in Week 5 is the Steelers-Bills game. That is expected to mark the first career start of first-round pick Kenny Pickett, who relieved Mitch Trubisky in the Steelers’ loss to the Jets in Week 4. Pickett threw three interceptions in that contest but completed 10 of 13 passes for 120 yards and ran for a touchdown. The Bills’ defense will provide him with a tough test out of the chute.
