The United States is into the quarterfinal round at the World Baseball Classic and, following a date with team Venezuela, hopes to become one of the final four teams standing in this year’s WBC.

After a scare earlier in the week, Team USA managed to finish tied at the top of Pool C, but the team finished as the runner-up to Mexico, who held the tiebreaker. The Americans finished with a 3-1 record in pool play, edging out Colombia with a 3-2 win to advance.

On the other side, Venezuela finished as one of two undefeated teams — Japan being the other — in pool play, winning Pool D with a 4-0 record. Both teams match up similarly on paper, with both lineups posting similar outputs offensively.

Team USA’s loaded lineup was fairly disappointing in pool play, with the loss to Mexico nearly dropping the Americans out of the tournament entirely. The task won’t be easy, as Venezuela is also filled with MLB talent. Fans will be treated to watching the likes of Mike Trout and Mookie Betts for the red, white and blue, as well as Jose Altuve and Miguel Cabrera on the Venezuela side.

The winner of Saturday’s matchup will advance to play Cuba in the semifinals on Sunday night.
