The 2023 French Open — tennis’ second grand slam major of the year — is underway!

Some of the best players in the world are battling it out for supremacy on the clay courts of Roland-Garros in Paris as they fight to lift either the La Coupe des Mousquetaires (men’s singles champions) or the Suzanne-Lenglen cup (women’s singles champion).

On top of that, each player will also be playing for a pay cheque at the grand slam with the tournament’s overall prize fund returning back to pre-covid levels.

The Sporting News looks at the total purse for the 2023 French Open and how it will be broken down across the different rounds.

What is the French Open total prize money in 2023?

After a few years where the prize pot slightly shrunk due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the 2023 French Open will return to pre-pandemic levels of prize funding for players who participate. 

That means that the total prize money at Roland-Garros in 2023 across all male and female tournaments comes in at €49.6 million (£43.06 million). For reference, that figure is up by 12.3% compared to 2022.

It also means that the singles winners in either tournament receive a cheque for $2,496,039 (£2,004,759) in 2023.
