Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will go in search of his fifth race victory of the 2023 F1 season as he starts the Spanish Grand Prix from pole position.
The Dutchman put together another masterclass in qualifying yesterday around the Circuit de Catalunya to take the 24th pole of his career, the same amount as legendary drivers Niki Lauder and Nelson Piquet both managed.
Another win this afternoon would almost certainly see Verstappen heavily extend his lead at the top of the World Drivers’ Championship standings as closest competitor and teammate Sergio Perez starts from P11 on the grid after disappointing in qualifying.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will also start down the pack in P19 after he failed to make any sort of impression during qualification for today’s race, whilst Mercedes’ George Russell begins in P12 after being knocked out in Q2.
Home favourite Carlos Sainz starts P2 with McLaren’s Lando Norris in P3 after the British driver seriously impressed on Saturday in Barcelona.
