Barcelona are gearing up for a major transfer move next summer, with Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams at the top of their wishlist.

Despite failing to secure the Spanish forward during the last transfer window, the Catalan giants remain determined to add another attacking “difference-maker” to their squad, as per SPORT.

The 21-year-old, who stayed at Athletic Bilbao this season to compete in Europe, has been on Barcelona’s radar for some time.

While his current campaign has been underwhelming, with just two goals and three assists in 16 matches, his potential keeps him in high demand across Europe.

Barcelona’s plans for Williams

Reports suggest that Barcelona is willing to reignite their pursuit of Williams but with one condition: the player must make it clear he wants to leave Bilbao.

Club president Joan Laporta and other senior figures see him as the ideal fit to strengthen their forward line.

Speaking to El Mundo last month, Williams downplayed transfer speculation, expressing happiness at Bilbao.

“The fans are happy I stayed, and so am I. Bilbao is my home,” he said, emphasizing his focus on helping his team succeed this season.

However, interest in Williams isn’t limited to Barcelona. Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool are also monitoring the talented winger ahead of the summer window.

Where Williams fits at Barcelona

If signed, Williams could provide much-needed depth for Barcelona’s attack.

With Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati potentially leaving, the club is thin behind their current front three of Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha, who have all delivered stellar performances this season.

Williams, valued at £58m, primarily plays on the left wing but can also operate on the right. His versatility would make him a valuable asset in Barcelona’s packed schedule, offering a dynamic option to rotate with their star attackers.
