While Tiger Woods is now on crutches and appears to be on the road to recovery, the four-time PGA Championship winner won’t be part of the 2021 PGA Championship field. However, several former champions of the event will be, including two-time winners Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy. Koepka will be going for his third win in the last four years, while McIlroy will be going for his third in the last decade. McIlroy won at the Ocean Course of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in 2012, and the course will host the 2021 PGA Championship beginning on Thursday, May 20.
Koepka is listed at 18-1 in the latest 2021 PGA Championship odds from William Hill Sportsbook. Those may seem like long odds for a golfer who recently went back-to-back at this tournament, but Koepka has played just one event since March due to knee surgery. McIlroy’s golf odds are at 16-1 as he looks to become the first non-American to win this tournament three times. The model’s top 2021 PGA Championship predictions
One huge shocker the model is calling for at the PGA Championship 2021: Bryson DeChambeau, the fifth-ranked player in the world and the 2020 US Open champion, stumbles big-time and barely cracks the top 10. DeChambeau is powerful off the tee and leads the Tour in driving distance, but his driving accuracy percentage ranks 136th, and that weakness will be magnified at the Ocean Course.
DeChambeau does have two wins on tour this season, but it’s still been an up and down year for the 2020 US Open champion. He’s coming off back-to-back finishes outside the top 40, including a disappointing 46th-place finish at the Masters. He also missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational in February, which knocked him out of the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking before recovering with a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Even with his prodigious power, DeChambeau’s 1.752 putting average doesn’t even rank among the top 75 on the PGA Tour. Nearly 3.3 percent of his total holes have ended in three-putts, and that percentage ranks 149th. There are just too many factors going against DeChambeau at the Ocean Course, so he’s someone to steer clear of for your 2021 PGA Championship bets.
Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, a massive long shot at 22-1, makes a strong run at his second PGA Championship title. The highlight of his career was winning the 2020 PGA Championship and he’ll look to become a back-to-back winner at this event after Brooks Koepka won in 2018 and 2019.
Morikawa added another PGA Tour win in February at the WGC-Workday Championship to give him four in his young career. He also has three other top-10 finishes this season, all coming in 2021. Still just 24 years old, Morikawa has already mastered his approach shots and leads the PGA Tour in strokes gained on approach. He also ranks in the top five in greens in regulation percentage (71.98) and strokes gained tee to green (1.556).
