Patrick Cantlay has had tremendous success at the Shriners Children’s Open over the years. In fact, Cantlay finished on top of the leaderboard in 2018 and secured back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2019 and 2020. Cantlay could certainly find himself in the mix again this week when the 2022 Shriners Children’s Open gets underway from TPC Summerlin on Thursday, Oct. 6.
Cantlay, an eight-time PGA Tour champion, is listed as the 6-1 favorite according to the latest 2022 Shriners Children’s Open odds. Sungjae Im, the defending champion of this event, is going off at 9-1, with Max Homa (14-1), Aaron Wise (18-1) and Tom Kim (22-1) next in line on the PGA odds board. SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.
This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Top 2022 Shriners Children’s Open predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2022 Shriners Children’s Open: Im, the defending champion and one of the top favorites at 9-1, stumbles this week and doesn’t even crack the top-five. Im put on a ball-striking clinic at this event last year, ranking No. 1 in both greens in regulation percentage and strokes gained: tee-to-green, helping him claim his second PGA Tour title.
However, Im was extremely inconsistent with his putter last season, ranking 92nd in putting average (1.762), 134th in one-putt percentage (38.57%) and 147th in 3-putt avoidance (3.16%), which doesn’t bode well for his chances to win this week. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the Shriners Children’s Open 2022 field.
Another surprise: Taylor Montgomery. a 35-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. Montgomery has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.
Montgomery certainly has the game to finish near the top of the leaderboard this week. The 27-year-old is off to a blistering start this season, finishing inside the top 10 in each of his first two starts. He secured a third-place finish at the season-opening Fortinet Championship and followed that up with a T-9 showing at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
In addition, Montgomery enters this week’s event ranked inside the top-10 in a number of important statistical categories, including scoring average (69.661), birdie average (4.88), strokes gained: putting (2.128) and one-putt percentage (54.17%). If he’s draining putts this week, he’ll have a great shot at finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2022 Shriners Children’s Open. See who else to pick here.
